New Product line: Dry Cryogenic Couplings
With the newly developed product line DCCouplings it is now possible to load and unload LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) in a wet hose system and significantly reduce the gas emission.
Gerhard Kopplin, Technical Manager at MannTek, has a received an award from Energigas Sweden (Swedish Gas Association) for his work in environmental and safety technologies.
Our subsidiary MannTek develops Dry Disconnect Couplings (DDC) to connect and disconnect hoses without spillage, under pressure. The challenge for Kopplin and his team was to find a sealing material that works up to -196 °Celcius and can be used in DDCs. Previously, LNG were load and unload with couplings (e.g. ball valves) which release a large volume of gas into the atmosphere.
The new product line 'Dry Cryogenic Couplings' (DCC) and 'Cryogenic Break-Away Couplings' (CBC) is now being used by the Swedish shipping industry. The Swedish authorities have set requirements for spill-free couplings of the model MannTek manufacturers, Dry Cryogenic Couplings, to be used for the refuelling of the first passenger ferry to run on LNG. The passenger ferry has start operating for commercial traffic in 2013.
Due to the close work with international standard organizations, the new product line is currently the world-wide standard for LNG refuelling.
